Broadford

Broadford is a large village set along Skye's beautiful shoreline with stunning views to the mountains of Plockton on the nearby mainland of Scotland's west coast and beyond. Towards the north end of the village is a pleasant park area beside the river and seashore and a short stroll from here takes you to the main pier where there is always a selection of small local fishing boats moored.

Here you will find the Roman Catholic Church and a footpath which continues on to Irishman's Point.

In the centre of the village there are plenty of amenities. Here you will find a Co-op supermarket, 24 hour petrol pumps, a butcher, post office, internet café, pharmacy, library, bank and a range of small shops, craft outlets and art galleries, cafés, pubs and restaurants. There is a Tourist Information office where you can pick up information on whats going on in Skye and the adjacent shop has a nice range of local gifts.

In the industrial estate at the north end of the village you will find the Isle of Skye seafood shop which specialises in locally caught fish.

A hand spinner gives demonstrations in Magic beside which is a second hand book store and art gallery. A hairdresser and Skye Jewellery also have premises in the village. Skyeline Ceramics produce local pottery and the Serpentarium makes an interesting visit.

There are many eating out establishments in Broadford including the Hebridean Hotel, Broadford Hotel, Creelers, Harbour Restauran, Watermill Coffee shop and Beinn na Caillich Café. You can also get excellent fish and chips at the Waterfront fish and chip shop.

There are bars in all the hotels and an off licence in the Co-op.

Close to the Police Station you will find the Church of Scotland and the Village Hall hosts many different events. There is a Medical Centre and Broadford Hospital with it's A&E dept is the main hospital for Skye and Lochalsh. There is also a vet and pet store available in Broadford if required.

From the house a pleasant stroll towards the shore brings you to the township of Waterloo where you will find a small beach and a footpath which leads to Lower Breakish. The Dancing Dolphin Therapies and Remedies, Skye Meadowsweet Miracle Oil is produced in Waterloo and well worth a visit. A nearby art gallery is also of interest. At nearby Ashaig a small white sandy beach is a pleasant place to watch the plentiful seabirds and local wildlife including otters, porpoises or occasionally if lucky, whales can be spotted.

Broadford is also a good location to explore all areas of Skye. Kyleakin, Sleat and Armadale are within a few miles and its proximity to the Skye bridge makes areas of the west coast of the mainland easily accessible.
